STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF MITOCHONDRIAL GENOME OF BETA VULGARIS L.

Summary

It is shown by electron microscopy and biochemical methods that mitochondria! DNA (mtDNA) of Beta vulgaris L. is multicomponent and consists of high molecular DNA (~500 kb) and minicircular plasmid-like DNA molecules (1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 kb). High molecular mtDNA when not entirely free of proteins is presented by resembling chro-momers of globular and rosette-like structures. The typical rosette has a protein core and stemming from it DNA loops. The globules and rosettes are interconnected betwe¬en themselves by thick and thin DNA fibrils along which nucleosome- and nucleomere-like structures are regularly distributed. The plasmid-like DNA molecules are in super-coiled forms.
