Resistance of in vitro Germinating Tomato Pollen to Kanamycin

Summary

An influence of various kanamycin concentration on total tomato pollen grain germination percentage and tomato pollen tube length is described in the article. A correlation is established between tomato plant sporophyte and gametophyte with the trait of resistance to kanamycin. At the same time differences are distinquished by means of breeding at gametophyte level at the stage of mature pollen between homo-and heterozygous state of plants which are resistant to kanamycin. Possible effects of kanamycin action on physiological and genetical activity of germinating pollen are discussed in various (resistant and susceptible to kanamycin) tomato genotypes.
