The composition ofpolysaccharid.es and phenol combinations of cell walls in callus cultures of strawberries with different ability to regeneration of the plant has been investigated. No essential differences have been found either in the content of cell walls or in the content and composition of poly saccharide fractions. At the same time the spectrum of phenol compounds had some clear-cut distinction: among the phenol products of oxidation of cell walls in regenerating callus cultures the vanilinaccountedfor a considerable fraction which was totally missing in nonregenerating calluses. Spectrophotometric analysis has made itpoissible to sup¬pose that this phenomenon involves the presence offerulic acid in the cell walls of regenerating cultures.
