An attempt to combine morphological characters and nuclear ribosomal DNA (internal transcribed spacer) sequences in phylogenetic studies in the genus Nicotiana

Relationships based on the ITS sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA of 24 Nicotiana species were studied using parsimony method. Their comparison with the conclusions of entire morphological, seed coat characters and polypeptide composition of rubisco of these species studies was carried out. It was shown that only morphological or only molecular data are insufficient to reconstruct phytogeny of any taxon analysed.
