Comparative characterization of S6 kinase a and ft isoforms expression in mammalian tissues

The expression of ribosomal S6 kinase a and ft isoforms has been analyzed in different rat tissues. The levels of kinase expression have been stated to show tissue-specific pattern, while the level of S6Ka is higher compared to that of S6Kft. The highest levels of a and ft isoforms expression have been found in the brain and testes, respectively. Comparing the results of the mRNA expression ana¬lysis for both forms of S6 kinase forms we have found a correlation with respective protein levels only in a restricted number of tissues that may reflect the different effectiveness of the corresponding mRNA translation.
