Restriction enzyme mapping of the ribosomal RNA genes of the genus Nicotiana

S. I. Komarnytsky

The organization of the nuclear-encoded ribosomal RNA genes of 66 species of the genus Nicotiana was analysed by restriction enzyme mapping. We have not found any differences in the position of restriction enzyme sites within the sequences coding for 18S, 5.8S, and 26 S rRNAs. The Investigation of the number and relative position of cleavage sites for restriction endonuclea- ses (EcoRI, BamHJ, Xbal, EcoRV, HindiII, Oral) in the IGS regions of Nicotiana in general confirmed the modern division of Nicotiana species into sections.
