Analysis of primer sets for the PCR-detection of provinis DNA of bovine leukemia virus and human immunodeficiency virus

A P. Limansky, O. Yu. Limanskaya

Theoretical and experimental comparison of four primer sets for the bovine leukemia virus (BLV) detection by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is carried out. Primers with 100 % homology for all known BLV isolates are shown to be more effective in detecting BLV infected cattle than primers with lower homology which have 2—4 mismatched (unpaired) nucleotides. Main Items of BLV eradication programme without vaccination in Ukraine are presented. The primers from commercially available kit for the H1V-1 PCR detection are shown to have 5—7 mismatched nucleotides that could make worse PCR primer set.
