Glutathione S-transferase PI activity and expression in human placenta depending on CYP1A1 genotype and expression level

Abstract

The cytosollc glutathione S-transferase activity was studied in human placenta samples of different CYP1A1, GSTP1 and GSTM1 genotypes. The GSTPl gene expression was also detected in human choriocarcinoma cells (BeWo) under conditions of the CYP1AI short-time induction by benzo(a)pyrene. There was a positive correlation between GSTP1 activity/expression and CYP1A1 activity/expression in full-term human placenta under physiological conditions as well as upon the short-time CYP1A1 induction in BeWo cells.
